Program of Performances
KOTO Ensemble Trifoglio
Sōkyoku – Classical Koto Music
Originating in the early 17th century—contemporary to Claudio Monteverdi's era in Italy—Sōkyoku was passed down orally for over three centuries by visually impaired musicians. Written sheet music was created only in the second half of the 19th century. Ensemble Trifoglio will guide you through the extraordinary beauty and elegance of classical koto music.
Shachihoko from SUI DANCE&FOOD
Dance, Anison, and Traditional Games for the Whole Family
A parent-and-child dance group bringing the vibrancy of pop culture and traditional anison (famous anime theme songs) to the stage. They will perform to a track from Demon Slayer, one of the most beloved anime in the world, while engaging the audience with traditional Japanese games in a celebration of dance and togetherness.
MAIYOSASHITAI
Spirituality, Dance, and the Beauty of "Ma"
A performing arts group offering a contemporary reinterpretation of the myths and prayers from Japan’s oldest texts (Kojiki and Nihon Shoki). Through dance and music, they will present "Awa Uta" (among the oldest songs in Japan) and "Hakuto" (a dance inspired by the myths of Izumo), allowing the audience to experience the spirit of harmony (Wa) and the depth of silence and space (Ma).
YOSSY&MASA(Lu)
Special Avant-Garde Pole Dance Collaboration
YOSSY (representative of eyecandy) and MASA(Lu) (representative of PoleDance Tokyo), two of Japan’s most renowned internationally active pole dance masters and performers, team up in a special unit created exclusively for JAPAN WEEK. A striking and unrepeatable fusion of contemporary body art and Japanese aesthetic sensibility.
Samurai Artist KAMUI feat. MIKA KOBAYASHI
Samurai Show & Live Music
The powerful vocals and piano of Mika Kobayashi—world-renowned singer of anime and video game soundtracks—meet the intense, dramatic, and breathtaking art of the Samurai Artist KAMUI. A meeting of world-class talents for a truly stunning performance.
Earth Rainbow
Contemporary Dance & Furisode: "BEYOND — Beyond All Boundaries"
Founded on the philosophy of taking talent "from first steps on stage to international scenes in just 3 months," the Earth Rainbow project embodies the beauty and inner strength of Japanese women. Through contemporary choreography embellished by the elegance of the furisode (the traditional long-sleeved kimono), they will premiere their new piece, "BEYOND — Beyond All Boundaries."
SANGANESENDENSYA
The Joy of Chindon-ya: The Travelling Advertisement Agency
Unique in the world and distinctly Japanese, Chindon-ya is a travelling tradition combining music and street promotion. Playing the chindon-daiko (traditional drum), bass drum, and wind instruments such as the saxophone and clarinet, this troupe from Aichi Prefecture will play Shōwa-era folk songs and pop tunes with lively, catchy rhythms.
An unmissable opportunity to experience the soul, art, and rhythm of Japan right in Palermo!
