A unique cultural bridge between Japan and Sicily: the atmospheric Real Teatro Santa Cecilia hosts an extraordinary journey through the history, art, and music of the Land of the Rising Sun. An unmissable evening that pairs the sacredness of ancient arts with modern influences and soulful acoustic performances.

EVENING PROGRAM AND ARTISTS

  • THE NOHGAKU PERFORMERS' ASSOCIATION | Noh Theatre

An organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Nōgaku, an art form recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Nōgaku is a traditional Japanese theatrical art unique in the world, performed for over 700 years while keeping its original form virtually unchanged. After years of performances and workshops in Japan and abroad, the association is delighted to present this complete art form—where the culture and spirit of the Japanese people unite—to the audience in Palermo.

  • TOW SHOW GIRL | Japanese-Style Tap Dance (“Yamato Tap”)

Born out of a passion for Japanese culture, this group has created a unique style by blending traditional garments and melodies with Western tap dance. Their performance, named "Yamato Tap," fuses the sacredness of Kagura dance with the notes of Gagaku and famous popular songs from the Shōwa era. On stage, artists in elegant Miko attire (Shinto priestesses) will share all the charm, energy, and warmth of the Japanese spirit.

  • DOPPO NAGATA | Shakuhachi Player

The shakuhachi is a vertical bamboo flute with only five holes that naturally produces a pentatonic scale; executing Western scales therefore requires an exceptionally advanced technique. Mastering jazz music theory, Doppo Nagata has forged a unique style that blends Japanese tradition with Western music. His repertoire includes original compositions, folk songs, and traditional children's melodies. Based in Osaka, the musician comes to Palermo to build bonds of friendship through music.

  • OGGI DOMANI HIROSHI | Vocals and Guitar

A solo singer-songwriter who brings his music to the small hot-spring towns and community centers of the Tōhoku region (northeastern Japan). Accompanied solely by his acoustic guitar, Hiroshi travels from afar to the heart of Palermo to sing with all his heart.

We look forward to sharing an unforgettable evening with you at the Real Teatro Santa Cecilia!
